Candidates MUST make AKSU their First (1st) Choice Institution. Applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) O'Level credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings. For specific programs like Crop Science, Animal Science, and Agricultural Economics, a 'Pass' in Physics is acceptable.

Direct Entry Rules

Direct Entry candidates must hold A' Levels, OND, HND, NCE, or a recognized JUPEB certificate. Final selection is based on a combination of the candidate's certificate grade and their score in the online Direct Entry screening.

Post UTME Screening Format

AKSU utilizes a rigorous Post-UTME screening system. Candidates must register on the portal, pay the screening fee, and upload scanned copies of their JAMB result slip, O'Level results, Birth Certificate, and Certificate of Origin. Uploading O'Level results to the JAMB CAPS portal is strictly mandatory.

AKSU Admission Cycle & Acceptance Trends

Post-UTME Cycle

Expected SeasonAugust - October
Historical ReleaseEarly August
Avg. Duration8 Weeks
💡 AKSU conducts a strictly online Post-UTME screening (no physical exam is required), with portals typically opening in early August. Crucially, once admission is offered on JAMB CAPS, the university enforces a strict 4-week grace period. Failure to accept the admission within this window results in permanent forfeiture and makes the candidate ineligible for future batches.

Competitiveness

DifficultyHigh
Est. Acceptance Rate35% - 45%
Historical Volume30,000+

While the 140 JAMB baseline provides broad access, AKSU utilizes a strict aggregate formula combining your UTME score and O'Level grades during the online screening. Because there is no physical CBT to help boost a poor JAMB result, candidates applying for competitive programs in Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Management Science realistically need UTME scores well above the baseline and excellent O'Level grades to secure a merit slot.

Active Weights: 50:50 ratio

⚠️ Why are there different calculation options?

Universities frequently adjust their screening style depending on the academic year. Some sessions rely on a strict 50:50 or 60:40 exam split, while others mix your O'Level results (WAEC/NECO) into the grading scale. Switch the selection button here to test your scores across all models.

Formula Blueprint: (JAMB / 8) + Sum(Best 5 O'Level Subject Points / 5)

Mass Communication is one of the most sought-after programmes in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Obio Akpa Campus, so competition is high relative to AKSU's overall baseline. Candidates should aim for the top of the safe target range and strong O'Level grades (A1–B3) to strengthen their aggregate score under AKSU's screening formula.

AKSU's official launch announcement did not specify a Direct Entry pathway for the pioneer 2025/2026 Law intake — confirm current DE eligibility directly with the Faculty of Law.

Admission Steps
  1. 1Score within the safe target range on JAMB UTME and select AKSU as First Choice — or process a JAMB Change of Institution if you selected another school first.
  2. 2Ensure your O'Level result contains 5 credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics, and Literature-in-English, in not more than 2 sittings.
  3. 3Register on the official AKSU admission portal (aksu.edu.ng/app) and pay the ₦2,000 screening fee.
  4. 4Submit scanned copies of your UTME Result Slip, Birth Certificate, and Certificate of Origin for screening.
  5. 5Monitor the AKSU portal and JAMB CAPS, and accept your admission offer within 4 weeks to avoid forfeiture.
  6. 6Complete matriculation and documentation at the Main Campus (Ikot Akpaden), where the Faculty of Law is based.

Law is AKSU's newest faculty — NUC approved the LL.B programme by letter dated 10 November 2025, effective the 2025/2026 session (three departments: Private and Property Law, Jurisprudence and International Law, Commercial and Industrial Law). There is no historical admission-competition data yet, so this safe target range is an estimate based on AKSU's overall competitiveness, not a published figure. NUC approval permits AKSU to run the LL.B degree — full accreditation from the Council of Legal Education (which governs eligibility for the Nigerian Law School) is a distinct process, so confirm current CLE accreditation status directly with the Faculty before enrolling.

About AKSU & Campus Life

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) is a fast-growing state-owned institution established in 2010. It uniquely operates out of two distinct campuses: the Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden (handling Sciences and Engineering) and the Obio Akpa Campus (handling Arts, Agriculture, Management, and Basic Studies). AKSU maintains a strong reputation for engineering, applied sciences, and biological research.

Students at AKSU enjoy a structured and rigorous academic environment. The university boasts highly modernized learning tools, well-equipped laboratories, and expansive agricultural research farms. The Obio Akpa campus also hosts the Basic Studies Centre, providing an active hub for JUPEB and continuing education students.

💡 Pro Tip: To secure regular admission to AKSU, prioritize making the university your First Choice in JAMB. Final admission is strictly determined by the calculated average of your UTME and Post-UTME scores. If you do not wish to take the UTME, consider the 9-month JUPEB program or the Part-Time degree pathway, both of which only require 5 O'Level credits.

Frequently Asked Questions About AKSU Admission

What is the cut-off mark for Medical Laboratory Science at AKSU?
Medical Laboratory Science is offered under AKSU's newly approved Faculty of Health Sciences (NUC approval granted 23rd December 2025). The official minimum UTME score for admission is 265, effective from the 2025/2026 academic session — well above AKSU's general 140 baseline. Candidates must also meet the standard 5-credit O'Level requirement, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry.
Can I perform a JAMB change of institution to AKSU if my first choice is unavailable?
Yes, you can apply for a JAMB Change of Institution to AKSU on the official JAMB CAPS portal, provided AKSU's post-UTME screening portal is still open and you meet their baseline departmental requirements.
Can I apply to AKSU without writing JAMB?
Yes. AKSU offers two non-UTME pathways: a 9-month JUPEB A-Level program for Direct Entry into 200-Level, and Part-Time degree programs via the Centre for Continuing Education (requiring only 5 O'Level credits).
What is the cut-off mark for Akwa Ibom State University?
