About LASUSTECH & Campus Life

Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) is a premier state-owned specialized university. Recently upgraded from the former Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), it remains a leader in technical and technological education in Nigeria. It operates three campuses with its main administrative seat in Ikorodu.

Campus life at LASUSTECH varies by location. Science and Engineering students enjoy the expansive facilities at the Ikorodu Main Campus, while students in commercial disciplines may study at the bustling Isolo or Surulere campuses. Note that the university does not provide on-campus hostels; students rely on off-campus housing.

💡 Pro Tip: Admission is highly competitive. Ensure you make LASUSTECH your first choice. For Direct Entry, ensure you have an Upper Credit and avoid using NABTEB results, as they are not accepted. Lagos indigenes must quickly process their State of Origin Verification Exercise (SOVE) to qualify for subsidized fees.

Admission Hack

Because LASUSTECH was recently upgraded from a polytechnic (LASPOTECH), many applicants fall into the trap of applying with 'polytechnic expectations.' The university has ruthlessly tightened its standards. If you are a Direct Entry candidate, do not bother applying with a Lower Credit or a NABTEB result—the portal will instantly reject you. It is strictly Upper Credit and WAEC/NECO only. Furthermore, if you are a Lagos State indigene, your biggest hurdle isn't just the Post-UTME; it is the SOVE (State of Origin Verification Exercise). You must actively monitor your email to submit your JAMB slip to the SOVE committee. If you fail to clear this rigorous indigene verification, your portal will automatically default to the significantly more expensive non-indigene tuition fee bracket.

🏠

Campus Survival

The most critical survival fact about LASUSTECH is that the university has ZERO on-campus hostels. Every single student must survive off-campus. However, do absolutely nothing regarding rent until you confirm your specific campus, as courses are scattered across Ikorodu, Isolo, and Surulere. If your course is domiciled at the Ikorodu Main Campus, the most popular student hubs are 'First Gate', 'Odogunyan', and 'Benson'. Traffic along the Ikorodu-Shagamu road can be incredibly brutal, especially on market days. To save your sanity and your pocket money, prioritize renting a lodge directly in the 'First Gate' area so you can easily walk to your lectures. If your course is at Isolo or Surulere, brace yourself: the cost of rent in these central Lagos metropolis areas is drastically higher than in Ikorodu.

Since upgrading from a Polytechnic to a University, LASUSTECH has experienced a massive surge in applicants. While the official baseline is often 180, historical trends show the university sometimes pushes the minimum requirement up to 190 or 195 for highly sought-after programs. Merely meeting the general cut-off does not guarantee admission into competitive colleges like Engineering or Applied Science.
