Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), located in Lapai, is the premier state-owned university of Niger State, Nigeria. Named after the former Nigerian military leader, the institution was established in 2005 with a vision to become a world-class center of excellence driven by people, partnership, and technology. Operating across its Main Campus in Lapai and its ICEeL campus in Minna, IBBU offers an array of fully NUC-accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs across Natural and Applied Sciences, Agriculture, Management, and Education. It also houses high-impact research facilities like the Trans-Saharan Disease Research Centre and the Institute of Maritime Studies.
The Lapai Main Campus provides a serene, rural academic environment heavily focused on research and student development. Students benefit from an E-Learning center, an ICDL ATC Center, a well-stocked university library, and dedicated health facilities. Because campus hostel bed spaces are highly competitive and limited, a large percentage of the student population resides in off-campus housing within the Lapai community, fostering a vibrant, localized student economy. The university also maintains a highly digital ecosystem, offering students access to an Anti-Plagiarism Portal and an extensive Digital Repository.
💡 Pro Tip: Securing admission to IBBU requires you to meet the 150 UTME baseline and ensure the university is your undisputed First Choice on JAMB CAPS. A critical step for all candidates is to upload their O'Level results to the JAMB portal before the university's online screening closes. If applying through Direct Entry, take note that NABTEB A'Level results are entirely rejected by the university. Financially, IBBU is highly favorable for Niger State indigenes, offering deeply subsidized tuition compared to non-indigenes. Always monitor the undergraduate portal closely; to secure a spot in the campus hostels, you must pay your school fees as swiftly as possible once the session begins.
Direct Entry (DE) candidates must possess valid A-Level passes, IJMB, NCE, or a recognized Diploma with an Upper Credit. Note: The university explicitly states that NABTEB A'Level results are NOT acceptable for Direct Entry screening.
Post-UTME registration and screening are conducted completely online. Candidates generate a transaction invoice via the portal to pay the ₦2,000 fee. Importantly, candidates must successfully upload their O'Level results to the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to be considered eligible for screening.
