Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), located in Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, is a premier state-owned university in Rivers State, Nigeria. Established in 2009 after evolving from the former Rivers State College of Education (founded in 1971), IAUE has transitioned into a full-fledged degree-awarding institution with a dual-mandate. The university offers uniquely paired NUC-accredited undergraduate programs, allowing students to pursue either pure Bachelor of Arts/Science (B.A./B.Sc.) degrees or specialized Education degrees (B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.) across Agriculture, Humanities, Management, Natural Sciences, and Vocational/Technical Education.
IAUE operates an active, multi-campus system designed to decongest its student population and offer specialized environments. The Main Campus sits in Rumuolumeni, the St. John's Campus is located along Aba Road, and the Ndele Campus provides a serene, agrarian environment for faculties like Agriculture. Students benefit from an entrepreneurial-focused curriculum, well-equipped ICT centers, and an engaging sociocultural ecosystem unique to Port Harcourt. Part-time students enjoy the rare benefit of taking courses alongside their regular counterparts, enabling them to graduate in 4 years and participate in the NYSC.
💡 Pro Tip: To gain admission into IAUE, candidates must be at least 16 years old, score a minimum of 150 in the UTME, and ensure that IAUE is strictly their First Choice institution. A critical, non-negotiable step is uploading your O'Level results to the JAMB CAPS portal. Once offered admission, candidates face strict deadlines to accept the offer on JAMB CAPS and pay the ₦50,000 acceptance fee via the IAUE Enterprise Schools Portal. Physical clearance involves strict biometric verification at the ICT desk and Faculty Conference Halls. For working professionals or polytechnic graduates, the Centre for Continuing Education offers highly flexible Weekend/Part-time programs and an intensive 1-year HND Conversion to Degree track.
Direct Entry (DE) candidates must possess an HND, ND, or NCE certificate from a recognized institution with acceptable grades (minimum Lower Credit/Merit). Two passes at the IJMB examination are also accepted. Education is accepted as a third A/Level subject for those taking courses in Education.
Post-UTME screening requires online registration. After admission is offered, candidates must first accept it on JAMB CAPS, print their JAMB Admission Letter and Result Slip (in color), and then proceed to the Faculty Conference Hall for physical and biometric clearance.
