Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU), formerly known as Bauchi State University, Gadau, is a multi-campus institution focused on original research and professional excellence. Its robust School of Postgraduate Studies offers advanced degrees in diverse fields, ranging from Arabic Studies to high-demand Public Health and Energy Economics specialties.
The university provides a unique academic experience across three campuses, with Gadau serving as the administrative and science hub. The Postgraduate school emphasizes original exploration and equipping students to solve emerging challenges in Nigeria's public and private sectors.
💡 Pro Tip: Ensure you meet the functional cut-off mark approved for the current session. Postgraduate applicants must possess relevant Bachelor's degrees or HNDs with specified minimum classes (typically 2nd Class Lower or Lower Credit for PGD). Check the official portal for annual screening timelines.

The biggest administrative hurdle for fresh applicants is navigating the recent university name change. While the institution is now officially Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU), many legacy documents, JAMB brochures, and even university staff still refer to it as Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG). Do not panic if you see both acronyms used interchangeably during your application process. Furthermore, SAZU provides a massive lifeline for students whose WAEC or NECO results are delayed; they explicitly allow you to use 'Awaiting Results' (AR) during the online screening. Finally, if you are a Bauchi State indigene, ensure your Local Government identification letter is perfectly documented before physical clearance. Claiming your indigene status correctly drops your tuition from the ₦109,000 non-indigene rate down to a highly subsidized ₦42,000.
If you are admitted to SAZU, absolutely DO NOT pay for off-campus accommodation until you verify your faculty's specific campus! SAZU operates a decentralized tri-campus system separated by hours of travel. If you are studying Management or Social Sciences (like Accounting or Political Science), your campus is on Yuli Road right inside Bauchi metropolis, where you can enjoy standard city life and easily find lodges. If you are studying Law, you are heading to the Misau campus. However, if you are studying Sciences, Agriculture, or Basic Medicals, you will be at the Main Campus in Itas/Gadau, which is a completely different Local Government Area and much more rural. Renting a lodge in Bauchi city when your lectures are in Gadau is a costly logistical nightmare that uninformed freshers fall for every single year.

DE candidates must choose SAZU as first choice, possess 5 O'Level credits, and have scored a minimum of 7 points in IJMB/NCE or at least a Lower Credit in National Diploma (ND).
The online screening typically opens in the third quarter of the year. Candidates pay a ₦2,000 fee on the portal. This is followed by a physical verification exercise at the campus where the program is domiciled.
