Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU), formerly known as Eastern Palm University, is a state-owned tertiary institution located in Ogboko, Ideato South LGA, Imo State. Originally established in 2016 as a public-private partnership, it was fully reclaimed by the Imo State Government and renamed in 2021 in honor of the legendary Nigerian nationalist, Dr. K.O. Mbadiwe. Fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), KOMU offers a rapidly expanding array of academic programmes across Sciences, Computing, Allied Health, Medicine, Law, Social Sciences, and the Arts, striving to provide uninterrupted, high-quality education.
Campus life at KOMU is serene and highly focused, benefitting from its beautiful, master-planned suburban campus in Ogboko. Students enjoy modern infrastructure originally designed to premium standards. Because the university is situated away from the extreme hustle of major cities like Owerri, students experience a tight-knit community with minimal distractions. Living in the on-campus hostels is highly encouraged to fully leverage the university's amenities and integrated learning environment.
💡 Pro Tip: Gaining admission into KOMU is strategic. A baseline cut-off of 150 qualifies you for most Science, Arts, and Management courses, and you can simply execute a 'Change of Institution' on JAMB CAPS to apply. However, for elite programmes like Medicine (210), Nursing (205), Law (200), and MLS (150), you MUST have selected KOMU as your first choice originally. If you lack JAMB, KOMU's accredited 1-year IJMB programme provides an excellent direct-entry route to 200 Level.

Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (formerly EPU) is highly accommodating for applicants who need a reliable backup option. They explicitly invite candidates who did not choose them as their first choice during JAMB registration to apply, provided they execute a 'Change of Institution' on the JAMB CAPS portal. However, be warned: if you are aiming for Medicine & Surgery, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, or Law, you MUST have chosen KOMU as your First Choice originally. 'Change of Institution' candidates are not considered for these premium courses.
The university is located in Ogboko, Ideato South, which is a semi-rural environment. Because the immediate surrounding town does not yet have heavily developed, private student residential hubs, securing an on-campus hostel is critical for your safety, uninterrupted power/water supply, and general comfort. The university is beautifully structured (a remnant of its initial PPP design), meaning the on-campus facilities are well-planned and highly conducive for learning.
Direct Entry candidates must possess a minimum of an ND/HND, NCE, or acceptable passes in JUPEB/IJMB or A-Levels in relevant subjects.
KOMU conducts an online Post-UTME screening exercise. Candidates must ensure their O'Level results are uploaded to JAMB CAPS, as the screening is strictly based on verified JAMB scores and uploaded WAEC/GCE/NECO/NABTEB results.
