Overview

Kano State Polytechnic (KANOPOLY) is a premier state-owned tertiary institution established in 1975. Designed to accelerate technological and entrepreneurial development in Northern Nigeria, the polytechnic is uniquely structured into several highly specialized, semi-autonomous schools spread across the state. These include the School of Technology (SOT), School of Management Studies (SMS), School of Environmental Studies (SES) in Gwarzo, and the School of Rural Technology and Entrepreneurship Development (SORTED) in Rano.

Because of its decentralized nature, campus life varies depending on the student's discipline. Students in the metropolis (SOT and SMS) enjoy the bustling, commercial fast pace of Kano city, while those in Gwarzo and Rano experience more focused, community-driven academic environments. The institution places a heavy emphasis on vocational skills, applied sciences, and entrepreneurship.

💡 Pro Tip: Admission into Kano State Polytechnic requires candidates to strictly meet the NBTE criteria. For ND applicants, scoring a minimum of 120 in JAMB and selecting the polytechnic as your FIRST CHOICE is mandatory. You must purchase the ₦2,500 screening form ONLY from the official portal. The institution accepts a wide variety of O'Level qualifications, including NBAIS. HND applicants must ensure they have completed their mandatory 1-year IT program before applying.

Admission Requirements

For National Diploma (ND) programmes, candidates MUST select KANOPOLY as their first choice institution (or complete a Change of Institution to make it their first choice) and score a minimum of 120 in the UTME. Candidates must also possess at least five (5) O'Level credit passes (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or NBAIS) in relevant subjects, including Mathematics and English Language, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings.

Direct Entry Rules

For Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions, candidates must possess a relevant National Diploma (ND) from an NBTE-recognized institution with a minimum of Lower Credit. They must also provide evidence of one (1) year post-ND mandatory industrial training (IT). Candidates with an ND Pass grade require a minimum of two (2) years of post-ND work experience.

Post UTME Screening Format

Kano State Polytechnic conducts an online Post-UTME screening exercise. Candidates are required to fill out their bio-data, upload their O'Level results, and pay a non-refundable screening fee of ₦2,500 exclusively through the official polytechnic portal. Applicants are strongly advised to avoid unofficial agents or websites to prevent fraud. Uploading O'Level results to JAMB CAPS is mandatory for ND candidates.
