Bayelsa State Polytechnic (BYSPOLY) is a prominent state-owned technological institution with a unique history. Originally established and known to many as the Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science (BYCAS) located in Elebele, the institution was heavily upgraded by the Bayelsa State Government through the Polytechnic Establishment Law of 2014 and its 2018 amendment. Today, having fully transitioned into a polytechnic, BYSPOLY operates from its temporary Elebele campus while aggressively developing its permanent, TETFUND-backed site in Aleibiri. The institution is dedicated to producing a practical-oriented workforce, offering fully NBTE-accredited ND and HND programmes across its Schools of Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences, Commerce & Management, and Foundation Studies.
Campus life at Bayelsa State Polytechnic is evolving rapidly as the institution transitions. Operating primarily out of the legacy BYCAS Elebele campus, students enjoy an intimate learning environment with functioning laboratories, a central library, and active student support units like the Entrepreneurial Development Centre. The administration places a strong emphasis on discipline, tolerance, and global integration. As the polytechnic prepares for its eventual relocation to the permanent Aleibiri campus, students benefit from a close-knit academic community and highly subsidized tuition.
💡 Pro Tip: Securing admission into Bayelsa State Polytechnic is highly accessible, explicitly designed to encourage educational growth within the state. Candidates must score a minimum of 110 in the JAMB UTME for Regular I (Full-Time) ND admission. If you did not originally select BYSPOLY, simply visit a CBT center to process a JAMB Change of Institution. Crucially, if you scored below 110 or missed the UTME entirely, the polytechnic's Regular II (Part-Time) track provides a seamless alternative entry route. During the screening process, ensure you have all original credentials, including your O'Level results, birth certificate, Certificate of Local Government Origin, and bursary payment receipts ready for physical verification.
For Higher National Diploma (HND) admissions, candidates must possess a National Diploma (ND) from an NBTE-recognized institution with a minimum of Lower Credit in the relevant discipline. A minimum of one-year Post-ND Industrial Work Experience is also mandatory.
The polytechnic conducts a strict physical screening exercise. ND candidates must present original copies of their JAMB Result Slip, O'Level Result, Certificate of Local Govt Origin, Birth Certificate, Change of Institution slip, and Bursary receipt. HND candidates must additionally present their ND Result and Evidence of Industrial Attachment.
