Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga (COE Akwanga) is a premier state-owned teacher-training institution located in Nasarawa State, Central Nigeria. Established in 1976 originally as the Advanced Teachers College under the old Plateau State, the institution was seamlessly transferred to Nasarawa State upon its creation in 1996. Today, the college serves as a dynamic pedagogical hub, offering a broad spectrum of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) courses across its specialized Schools of Secondary, General, and Early Childhood Education, alongside fully NUC-accredited Bachelor's Degrees in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
Located along the scenic Jos Road in Akwanga, the campus offers a highly conducive and focused learning environment. The college actively promotes research and development through its Directorate of Linkages and an academic publishing unit. Students enjoy standard science laboratories, vocational workshops, and highly subsidized on-campus hostel facilities.
💡 Pro Tip: Admission into COE Akwanga provides flexible and valuable pathways for aspiring educators. If you are applying for the foundational 3-year NCE programs, a JAMB score of 100 makes you fully eligible for the screening. Ensure you possess 5 O'Level credits (strictly including English and Mathematics). If you did not originally choose COE Akwanga, simply effect a 'Change of Institution' on the JAMB CAPS portal. Be prepared to pay a screening fee of ₦2,322.50 via the Central Billing System (CBS), after which you must physically present your printed Bio-Data form and credentials at the College Admission Office.
Direct Entry (DE) candidates seeking admission into the 200-Level of the ABU Zaria affiliated Degree programs must hold a valid NCE or recognized National Diploma (ND) with a minimum of Merit, alongside their foundational 5 O'Level credit requirements.
The college conducts a hybrid screening process. Candidates log into the college website, create an account, generate an invoice, and pay exactly ₦2,322.50 (including VAT) through the Central Billing System (CBS). Candidates must then print out the BIO-DATA FORM, attach photocopies of their credentials, and proceed to the College Admission Office for physical screening.
