Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua (USCOEGA) is a premier state-owned teacher training institution located in Yobe State, Nigeria. Established in 1986 as the Advanced Teacher's College, Gashua, it was renamed in 2008 to immortalize the late Emir of Bade, Alhaji Umar Suleiman. The institution has served as the foundational bedrock for higher education in Yobe State, producing thousands of highly qualified educators. Today, USCOEGA runs an expansive academic portfolio spread across six specialized Schools, offering dozens of unique NCE combinations including indigenous languages like Hausa and Kanuri. Furthermore, it operates a highly successful degree-awarding affiliation with the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Located along Gashua Road in the Bade Local Government Area, the USCOEGA campus provides a disciplined, culturally rich, and academically focused environment. The college is equipped with a modern library, standard science laboratories, and an active Human Resources Development Center (HURDEC). The college management is deeply committed to student welfare, operating a strict consolidated fee structure that covers caution deposits, library development, and examination fees to prevent unauthorized levies. Students also have access to subsidized on-campus hostel accommodations and a robust Students' Union ecosystem.
💡 Pro Tip: Admission into Umar Suleiman College of Education caters to various academic levels. For NCE tracks, candidates need a minimum JAMB score of 100 and at least 3 or 4 O'Level credits. The UNIMAID-affiliated 100-Level Degree programmes require a strict UTME score of 180 and 5 full O'Level credits. Candidates with O'Level deficiencies can apply directly to the Pre-NCE tracks with just 4 passes. Direct Entry (DE) applicants with an NCE 'Merit' can apply directly for 200 Level degree admission. During physical clearance, freshers must produce their LGA Identification and a Medical Report from a government practitioner.
For Degree admissions: 200-Level applicants require an NCE with a minimum of 'Merit' plus 5 O'Level credits. 100-Level applicants with an NCE 'Pass' or an ND/OND at 'Lower Credit' are also accepted, provided they scored 180 in the UTME.
Candidates must obtain the application form by paying a non-refundable fee (₦3,000 for Degree, ₦2,000 for NCE/Diploma) at the designated microfinance bank. After payment, candidates present the bank teller to the Bursary Department to collect the access form.
