About OOU & Campus Life

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), originally founded as Ogun State University in 1982, is a premier state-owned institution. Renamed in 2001 to honor the former civilian governor, Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, OOU has grown into a massive academic powerhouse with a robust alumni network, operating a unique multi-campus system spread strategically across Ago-Iwoye, Sagamu, Ibogun, and Ayetoro.

Because of its multi-campus structure, student life at OOU varies heavily depending on your discipline. The Main Campus (Permanent Site) in Ago-Iwoye is a bustling, metropolitan hub of Arts, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Meanwhile, Engineering and Environmental Science students experience focused, practical training at Ibogun, Agricultural students reside in the serene Ayetoro campus, and Clinical/Medical students study closely with the teaching hospital in Sagamu.

💡 Pro Tip: To secure admission into OOU, making the university your first choice is non-negotiable. Ensure you prepare thoroughly for their Post-UTME, as OOU relies heavily on an aggregate of your UTME and Post-UTME scores. For Direct Entry candidates, ensure all your certificates are fully uploaded to JAMB CAPS, as you will still be required to participate in the internal screening. For clearance, be aware that you will need an Ogun State Tax Receipt (₦10,000) or a valid Tax Clearance Certificate alongside your standard academic credentials.

🎯

Admission Hack

OOU is famous for having one of the most rigorous physical clearance processes in the South-West. Gaining admission on the portal is only step one; you must arrive on campus with a very specific set of documents, the most notorious being the Ogun State Tax Clearance Certificate (or a ₦10,000 tax receipt). Do not wait until resumption day to hunt for this document, as the queues at the state tax offices become unbearable. Academically, while the 160 cut-off is the baseline, OOU's Post-UTME is highly competitive. If you are applying for Law, Medicine, or Pharmacy, a JAMB score below 220 puts you at a severe mathematical disadvantage during the final aggregate calculation.

🏠

Campus Survival

Before you pay for any off-campus accommodation, you must absolutely confirm your faculty's location. OOU is completely decentralized: Arts, Sciences, Law, and Social Sciences are at the Main Campus in Ago-Iwoye. However, if you are admitted for Engineering or Environmental Sciences, you will be banished to the rural town of Ibogun (which lacks the social amenities of Ago-Iwoye). Medical and Pharmacy students are located in Sagamu (close to the teaching hospital), and Agriculture students are in Ayetoro. For students at the Main Campus, popular off-campus student hubs include 'Fidelis', 'Mini Campus', and 'Ijesha', but you must factor in the daily transport fare from town to the Permanent Site.
