About DESPO & Campus Life

Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara (DESPO), is a premier state-owned technical institution located in the agricultural town of Otefe, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State. Established in 2002 by the Delta State Government through a unique partnership with Westminster University, London, DESPO was conceptualized to champion Entrepreneurial Acquisition and IT advancement. Fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the polytechnic offers highly competitive ND and HND programmes across Business, Engineering, and incredibly rare Applied Sciences—such as Glass and Ceramic Technology, Photography, and Food Science Technology.

Situated in the serene environment of Otefe-Oghara, the polytechnic provides a heavily focused and highly practical academic life. Students benefit from expansive technical workshops and a curriculum heavily weighted toward industrialization and wealth creation. While the 2025/2026 service charges represent a premium investment (ranging from ₦126,000 to ₦138,450), the institution ensures value through intensive, job-ready training.

💡 Pro Tip: Securing admission into DESPO is straightforward but requires candidates to follow specific physical screening protocols. Regular ND applicants must score a minimum of 100 in the JAMB UTME. All applicants must have 5 O'Level credits (including Math and English). During the screening exercise, candidates must arrive with writing materials (HB pencil), their original JAMB slip, O'Level results, and a Certificate of Local Government of Origin. HND applicants must ensure they possess an ND with at least a Lower Credit, a completed 1-year IT, and their official academic transcripts.

DESPO Admission Requirements (O'Level & Direct Entry)

Candidates must possess a minimum of five (5) O'Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics obtained in not more than two (2) sittings (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB). For computer science, a pass in Physics is mandatory. Candidates who did not initially choose DESPO MUST perform a Change of Institution on the JAMB CAPS portal.

Direct Entry Rules

For admission into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, candidates must possess a National Diploma (ND) from an NBTE-accredited institution with a minimum of Lower Credit, alongside one year of verifiable post-ND industrial attachment (IT). Candidates with a 'Pass' grade must present evidence of two (2) years of post-ND industrial training. HND applicants must provide their ND result, Evidence of IT completion, and JAMB regularization evidence.

Post UTME Screening Format

The screening process involves a physical Post-UTME exercise. Candidates are advised to arrive with writing materials (including an HB pencil), Original JAMB Result Slip, O'Level Result, Certificate of Local Government of Origin, two recent passport photographs, and their birth certificate.
